Our preferred romantic spots in Hong Kong

What day is it And in what month? This clock never seemed so alive I can't keep up, and I can't back down I've been losing so much time

'Cause it's you and me And all of the people with nothing to do Nothing to lose And it's you and me And all of the people And I don't know why I can't keep my eyes off of you

(Lifehouse – You and Me)

Well this classic song has certainly been given new meaning during these covid times, with time seeming to drag on forever and people being restricted to hang out with only 1 other person. If you’re looking for ideas on where to go with your significant other, why not check out our LocalHood volunteers’ favourite romantic spots in Hong Kong!

My favorite romantic spot in HK is at Sunset Peak, Lantau.

To make the trip memorable, my husband and I decided to scale Lantau Peak on our anniversary to test our endurance. Pacing ourselves and looking out for each other along the way, we took time to appreciate the beautiful grassy landscape. While taking a break to enjoy the spectacular panoramic view at the summit, I felt a great sense of blessing. After all these years we are still together, tackling life challenges and enjoying each other's company while experiencing new adventures along the way.

In order to get there, take bus to Pak Kung Au from Tung Chung. After alighting, cross to the other side and follow the sign to Lantau Trail Stage 3 to Ngong Ping. Total 6 km with highest elevation at 934m. Be prepared for steep inclination going up. A walking stick helps. Total hiking time is 3 hours. We took 2 hours 44 mins .

My top romantic spot is at Disneyland Lake a.k.a. Inspiration Lake. Why? Because we can go cycling and have a picnic by a pristine lake. There are also some secret hideaways. You can take a taxi/Uber there if bringing your own bike, or take the train if renting a family bike or boat near the lake.

One of my favourite romantic spots is the Saiwan Swimming shed. We discovered it by chance, once while going on a walk on Victoria Road, Mount Davis, 2 years ago. And we loved its discreet location whose entrance is indicated only in Cantonese (so goes unnoticed by expats) and the entrance hidden by trees and shrubs. It is very natural, clean and very local. A hidden gem so well preserved by the neighborhood folks. People preserve the area and respect people who live in it. We saw really old popos swimming right from early morning. It was invigorating for them but also for us watching them :-)... We decided to go there one evening with 2 glasses, some snacks and a bottle of wine and now are regular visitors of our go-to-romantic and utterly peaceful place.

Personally I don’t go on romantic dates so much these days with a little toddler in the mix! But one spot where I see a lot of couples hang out is at the Belcher Bay Promenade. It is a great place to watch sunset, sitting next to the sea, having your legs dangling off the edge and occasionally, there’ll even be a busker belting out some classic romantic tunes. It’s easy to get there – just 6 minutes’ walk from Exit A of the Kennedy Town MTR Station.
